Water Now, Water for our Future

Groundwater Sources

Corpus Christi is actively exploring groundwater resources to diversify its water portfolio beyond surface water reservoirs. This initiative includes evaluating historical well sites and drilling new wells to tap into underground aquifers.

Groundwater exploration provides crucial redundancy in the water supply system, adding another layer of security during periods of surface water scarcity. This approach also helps to balance extraction pressures across multiple water sources, supporting long-term environmental sustainability.

A solution for today

Seawater Desalination

Seawater desalination is the cornerstone of our long-term water security. When operational in 2028, this cutting-edge facility will produce up to 36 million gallons of potable water daily through advanced seawater desalination technology.

This drought-proof solution will convert the region's abundant seawater into fresh drinking water, providing a climate-resilient supply source regardless of rainfall patterns or drought conditions.

A solution for generations to come

Cost Effectiveness

Central to the planning and design of the Inner Harbor Water Treatment Campus is minimizing cost to ratepayers. Top of the line technology, which will reduce ongoing operating expenses, will be implemented in the facility.

Kiewit, the design-build firm for the project, brings strong relationships with suppliers, allowing them to source equipment and materials as quickly and as economically as possible.

With an eye to the changing economy and ever-rising costs, the Inner Harbor Water Treatment Campus team is committed to adhering to an established timeline, avoiding delays that can drive up the cost of materials and labor.
